The Parent Engagement Collaborative Action Network (PECAN) is the parent hub where community members become actively engaged as Parent/Family Partners to drive systems change.
Our goal is to achieve fifty percent parent representation on all ROC the Future Alliance workgroups by 2025, including our Outcome Teams, Data Advisory Team, Funding Committee, and more. This ensures shared power and joint decision-making for the betterment of our children and families. To date, we are more than halfway towards our goal!
Our work is guided by the StriveTogether Community Engagement Spectrum. This was adapted with the intention of helping network members work toward creating equity in their communities by including those most impacted by decision-making. We are proud to share our accomplishments including:
-
- A Parent/Family Partner recruitment campaign that included distribution of direct mail postcards to 6,000 homes and interviews on 105.5 The Beat and 104 WDKX.
-
- Recruited and onboarded 38 new Parent/Family Partners to PECAN
-
- Hosted 3 public sessions on topics of community interest: mental health & parent advocacy, supporting Black & Brown fathers who have been incarcerated, and father involvement in their children’s education.
-
- PECAN members, Jasmin Vega and Kearstin Piper-Brown, selected to present Rooted in Community: This is How We Do It, in collaboration with Milwaukee Succeeds, for the 2024 StriveTogether Cradle to Career Convening in Salt Lake City, Utah.
To celebrate the hard work of our Parent/Family Partners, we held an end-of-year celebration at Dave & Buster’s to recognize their efforts to inform systems level change for improved cradle to career outcomes.
