ROC the Future’s High School Graduation Outcome Team studied the factors that contribute to on-time graduation from high school. Graduating from high school increases a student’s ability to gain employment, improve their earning potential, influence peers to pursue graduation, and more. Successful graduation from high school with the appropriate skills will eventually lead to more students pursuing post-secondary education.

Edison Technical and Wilson Commencement Schools were selected through a proposal process to participate in this endeavor.

Strategies Used to Influence Outcomes

RCSD is implementing an Advisory Program in all high schools to:

  • Help students adjust to school and their new grade
  • Build community among students and with faculty and staff
  • Provide academic advising and coaching as a way of helping students succeed
  • Strengthen relationships between the school and families

These small groups of students and advisors will meet regularly. The advisory experience can support increased attendance, higher grades and test scores, and higher graduation rates. ROC the Future is working with teams at Wilson Commencement Academy and Edison Career & Technical High School to implement their advisory programs. Lessons learned from those schools will be shared throughout the district to strengthen the program city-wide.
